Former Pittsburgh Hornet goaltender and, current member of the USA National Development Team Program John Gibson, has been invited to participate in the NHL Research, Development and Orientation Camp. One of only 40 or so players chosen to attend, Gibson and the other prospects will play multiple scrimmages that will incorporate new rule ideas as some of the hockey worlds biggest decision makers look on.
The players were selected by NHL Central Scouting based on their potential for next summers NHL Draft. The majority of NHL General Managers, league officials and representatives from the International Ice Hockey Federation will all be in attendance. The camp will take place on August 18th and 19th in Toronto.

Former Pittsburgh Hornet Cliff Loya has been named the assistant coach on the Hornets 2000 birth year team. Cliff returns to coach after an impressive playing career.
Cliff played four years at the University of Maine where he was selected in the NHL Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks. He then went on to play 7 years professionally in the AHL, ECHL and in Europe. We welcome him back and are sure that he will make a strong addition to the Hornets coaching staff.
Former Pittsburgh Hornet Stephen Johns was selected by the Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks in the 2nd round (60th overall) of the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. Johns becomes the fourth highest Western PA native ever picked behind RJ Umberger, Grant Lewis and Mike Weber. Congratulations Stephen and good luck with the Blackhawks.
Four former Pittsburgh Hornets have been named as participants in the USA Hockey World Junior Team evaluation camp this August in Lake Placid, NY. Brandon Saad, who recently signed with Saginaw of the OHL. Patrick Wey who plays for the defending NCAA Champions Boston College. Goaltender Michael Houser who just completed his first season with the London Knights of the OHL. The final player is defenseman Stephen Johns, who will be a freshman at Notre dame this fall.

Brandon Saad celebrates with teammates following the Gold Medal victory
Former Hornets Stephen Johns and Brandon Saad were both part of the Gold Medal winning US team at the IIHF World Under 18 tournament. Team USA won 6 straight games after falling to Silver Medalist Sweden in the opening game to take the title in Minsk, Belarus. It'sTeam USA's second consecutive Under 18 gold and the program's third this season also winning the Under 17 and World Junior Championship (U20). The NHL Central Scouting Service released their final lists for the 2010 Entry Draft in Los Angeles and 5 former Pittsburgh Hornets have been included. The highest rated player is defenseman Stephen Johns ranked 35th overall, and is currently playing for the NTDP in Ann Arbor, MI. Forward Matt White is also listed as the 106th ranked skater.
The list of North American goalies only has 30 players ranked but 3 of those are former Hornets. The highest ranked is Michael Houser who is rated the 11th available goaltender and is currently playing for the London Knights of the OHL. Parker Millner of Boston College is the 26th ranked goaltender after being listed last year and going undrafted. Matt Skoff, currently playing for Sioux City in the USHL, and one of the U18 team goalies last season rounds out the list at #30.

Last night former Hornet's Patrick Wey and Parker Milner beacame the first Hornets to capture and NCAA Hockey championship. Both players are freshman at Boston College, who defeated Wisconsin 5-0 at Ford Field in Detroit to win the school's fourth NCAA title. Congratulations.
Current Pittsburgh Hornet U16 forward AJ Coleman has been invited to USA Hockey's National Team Developement Program's tryout camp in Ann Arbor, MI. He will be skating with the 45 best 15 year old's in the country attempting to earn a spot on the prestigious U17 NTDP roster for next season. Former Hornet Dylan Reese made his NHL debut for the New York Islanders last night against the Atlanta Thrashers. The Upper St. Clair native had just been traded from the Columbus Blue Jackets two days before. While property of Columbus he had been playing for their AHL affiliate in Syracuse, NY. Congratulations Dylan and good luck.
Ryan Malone becomes the first Hornet alumni to win an Olympic medal as he brings home a Silver following Team USA's 3-2 heartbreaking loss in the Gold medal game yesterday. It was a great tournament, and a great performance, for USA Hockey and we thank all of the American players for a superb effort.
Former Hornet and current Boston College Eagle Parker Milner was named the Hockey East Goaltender of the Month. Along with that honor he was also named the Defensive Player of the Week. Congratulations Parker.
Former Hornets JT Miller, John Gibson and Barret Kaib were all part of the USA U17 team that won the gold medal at the World U17 challenge in Timmins, Ontario. JT Miller finished the tournament with 5 goals and 3 assists in 6 games. Goaltender John Gibson stole the show in the gold medal game stopping 38 of 39 shots with the only Ontario goal coming with one second left to spoil the shutout. Gibson was named player of the game in 2 of his 3 starts, including the gold medal game, and finished the tournament with a 1.33 GAA and a 0.957 save%. Congratulations guys.

Former Hornet Matt Skoff has been named the USHL goaltender of the week. Matt, who currently plays for the Sioux City Musketeers, won all 3 starts last week to claim the award. Congratulations Matt.
Former Hornet Christian Hanson has been named to the American Hockey League Planet USA All-Star team. Hanson is having a very successful first pro season in the Maple Leafs orgainization, after graduating from Notre Dame last spring. he has also played a number of game in the NHL. The game can be seen live on Tuesday January 19 at 6:00 pm on the NHL Network.

Wey, who will attend Boston College in the fall, is a Mt. Lebanon native and played last season for the Waterloo Blackhawks of the USHL. Congratulations Patrick.
