The Pittsburgh Hornets will be hosting three open skates for players interested in the 1998 team for the 2012-2013 season: 1998 Team Open Skates
On Saturday November 5th the 98 Hornets volunteered for the Produce to People Program through Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank. Earlier in the season the team worked at the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank in Duquesne packing boxes that would ultimately be distributed to families in need. This Saturday the team met at Holy Rosary School in Homewood where they were given the opportunity distribute the food themselves and see the end result of their previous hard work. The morning began by packing bags of apples and other produce as well as setting up tables for the distribution of the food. The food included many produce items, canned goods and frozen chicken. The boys were given a variety of jobs ranging from keeping the tables stocked to handing out food to helping the recipients to their cars and unloading their boxes or carts. The boys handled their jobs with the utmost respect and class. When the day was done, they had distributed 24,000 pounds of food to over 400 families in need. The morning was a tremendous success and everyone should be very proud of our team.
No tears here- just alot of hardwork and fun! This past Thursday morning the 98 team took a shift off the ice to work at the Pittsburgh Food Bank. Accompanied by several parents and staff, the group spent the morning repacking produce that will ultimately be given to folks in need in communities throughout the area. The produce of choice on this Thursday morning was onions, but again, no tears were shed. Just a whole lot of teamwork and laughs as the boys worked together.
The team is planning a follow-up to this effort, and if schedules allow we will be back at it sometime this Fall to help distribute food asnd supplies to those in need.
Great job boys!!
